"I called to dispute a transaction"
I called to dispute a transaction. This was my experience.

- Attempt #1, called at 4PM, got through to a human in 1 hour and 45 minute. Was told that the disputes department closes at 5 and to try again tomorrow. When I told the associate that I had to wait for almost two hours, and requested a call back. They said ok. I never received a call back
- Attempt 2, called at 11 AM. Was on hold for 2 hours and 20+ minutes. Call just dropped.
- Attempt 3, called at 11 AM. On hold for over 2 hours, was told I reached the wrong department and was given a number for disputes 855-41701767. Upon calling the number it was the same menu and I had to wait again.

I am on hold again as I write this. It is frustrating when you cannot contact your bank to do something as important as disputing a transaction. I shall close my accounts (chequing and credit card) with them after I pay off this months statement. I would never recommend them to anyone. If I could give negative stars, I would.

The fact that all their responses to people's comments on this website is the same canned message that is copy-pasted should give readers and idea of their horrible horrible "customer service" if you can even call it that.

"I will never recommend Tangerine again"
I will never recommend Tangerine again, it is a bank that is very convenient when everything is going well, but as soon as there is a problem, you are left to fend for yourself. Here is my testimony:

For a few years, from 2019 to 2022, I was impressed by how quickly you could open an account and receive your payment cards.

The first problem arose in September 2022. $600 worth of purchases were made with my credit card in several stores in Dublin, Ireland. I called Tangerine, who asked me which transactions were fraudulent and that the reimbursement would be made within 10 days after an investigation.

30 days later, no refund and interest were accumulating on my credit card, which I was no longer using. I called every week until the end of November 2022, still no refund. I had to pay the balance and fees because I needed a credit card.

For each call, I had to spend about 1.5 hours on the phone and explain the situation to all the advisors I spoke to. The situation was never resolved.

In February 2023, another problem arose. My payment cards and driver's license were stolen in the street. 30 minutes after that, an email from Tangerine told me that my password had been changed.

I called Tangerine urgently; it took another 1.5 hours to reach an advisor. I explained the situation, but we went around in circles for another 30 minutes. Given the advisor's incompetence, I had to battle through the mobile application myself.

At Tangerine, it is important to know that you cannot contact the security service directly. You must first reach an advisor who will decide whether to forward your call and then wait again.

Once my cards were blocked, Tangerine informed me that my account would be unavailable for investigation for a maximum of 15 days and that I would receive a new client number. But it took more than three weeks, and I incurred fees due to late payments.

In this situation, Tangerine's policy is to ask the customer to call to unblock the account. You still have to spend 1.5 hours reaching an advisor, convince the person to unblock your account for 10 minutes, and it doesn't work.

With Tangerine, the worst part is the total lack of empathy from the advisors, unlike other banks I have dealt with. The advisors are generally incompetent, and I have spoken to about thirty of them.

Result: a lot of stress and loss of money.

"Holding inheritance deposit cheque for maximum # days. They claim online and over the phone to…"
They claim online and over the phone to hold a cheque deposit for 5 business days. Then hold it for 8 business days. Contacted customer service several times by phone and online, they each have a different response. With one of the last responses clearly stating why they are holding the cheque for 5 business days.(they are holding it for 8). They claimed they will release $100 of cheque deposit but then don't with no reason on 1st reply. They finally respond back that if I am in need of emergency fund to be released from cheque to call. I called they responded with no funds will be released for 8 business days. This last email really makes me wonder. They sent me an email stating that I can destroy the original cheque I deposited now, as it has cleared, yet they are still holding it for 5 more business days after it has cleared? Funds are from inheritance.

"Chequing’s Account is Best"
The good first. The Chequing’s account is one of the best you can get in Canada definitely. Unlimited Purchases, Bill Payments, Interact E-Transfers ( With respect to Account Limits that all banks have ) & your first 50 Cheques are Free. The time it takes to get Interact E-Transfers range from Instant to around 30 Minutes, Which in my experience with Scotiabank is actually typical. Now the not so good. I keep my information up to date with banks especially whenever I apply for Credit Products & Unfortunately Tangerine is the only bank to ever deny my application for both a Credit Card ( Once ) and a Line of Credit ( Twice ) and since my last application the LOC doesn’t even appear on the list of Borrowing products for me to choose from anymore. It’s really strange to me for a few reasons. I’ve been approved for each Credit Card I’ve had with RBC & approved for each Credit Card and my LOC with Scotiabank but Tangerine is the only bank that rejected me, With the absent of my application for Overdraft Protection in which Tangerine approved me for the highest limit. I’ve seen on various chat websites however that Tangerine seems to be famous for this in where a High School / College student with no Job can get approved meanwhile a good income / no debt individual with a high credit score and credit history can be denied. And my personal score was just over 800 at the time of my most recent application.

"Rude, long wait times, condescending, & unhelpful"
Customer service phone line was so horrible. Hung up on me, tried to call multiple times, waited another hour or so just for them to call back and be provided with a rude agent with so much attitude, didn't bother explaining anything when all I wanted to know was why I got charged an NSF fee? Ridiculous service. I get it's a free bank account but where do they hire these employees?

"I will never deal with this banking…"
I will never deal with this banking platform again. I deposited a twelve hundred dollar cheque and they refuse to release even a hundred dollars wich in my experience is pretty standarx with most banks to at LEAST release 100$. Let's just hope I'm not dead by the time it's released because I will be closing my account with them. These days a box of Kraft dinner costs 3$, times are not getting any easier and their excuse for not releasing the hundred dollars is the computer system won t let them. Well with computers it's a push of a button...because we all know computers don't give a crap if your starving.

Really require -1 or -10 stars for this outfit. Cannot close the account except 'in person' and I live 200 miles from a branch. Cannot access my account because they only verify with text and persist in sending text to land line- no option. So now I am to email personal info to a strange email address with a selfie, no less, in order to access my account. I cannot even provide a correct phone #.

"Absolutely horrendous"
Absolutely horrendous. E transfer’s take forever. Very difficult to get any customer service. Would not recommend anyone deal with this bank.

"Unreliable"
A few different times the banking system was down for maintenance. 1 time it took 6 hours for my etransfer to go through. The Tangerine banking is unreliable at times. I cannot pay bills or send or receive etransfers when the system is down. It is time to move on for good from this Mickey Mouse company.

For several years I was choosing the US Dollars withdrawal option when I withdrew from the instabank out of the country... when I clicked on the other option it was coming back again and I thought it didn't work. It was only 2 years ago that I discovered how much money they were stealing from me with the US dollar option. I made an instabank withdrawal today where the US dollar option would have cost me more than $20 extra!
This is robbing the customer I don't know if it also happens when making withdrawals in Canada I never noticed, but whenever I'm in Europe this the way it works

"All online yet site ALWAYS down/ under maintenance"
Tangerine has no physical branches and prides itself as one of the best online banks, yet the website is ALWAYS down/ under maintenance. What a freakin joke! I can never access my banking when I WANT to do my banking, which is their mission statement. Thank GOODNESS I am switching to a more reliable bank. HIGHLY DON'T RECOMMEND!!!!
